PROGRESS / DAY 21

Welcome to my Pure Raw Life. It’s Day 21 and I’m checking in with my results.

I am amazed at how much can change in just one week. Consistent change truly adds up over time. This week’s photos and measurements inspire me to keep at this!

I see now why progress photos are so valuable to success. Just yesterday I had a moment where I thought, “Is all this really even worth it? Why am I even doing this. Maybe I should just go along with the way the rest of our country is eating.” Seeing today’s progress and remembering my “why” keep me on this path to fulfillment.

How about some Non Scale Victories this week? I put myself in some sticky situations…aka eating out…and I passed with flying colors! I even met friends at my favorite Pizzeria and swapped pizza and wine for sparkling water and salad.

Some areas I’d like to strive to improve upon this coming week? Eating in more, having more green vegetables, and drinking more water.

Now let’s look at some of my stats:

Over the last 7 days, I released 1.6 pounds and 1.5 inches. And over the last 21 days, I have released 6.2 pounds and 5.75 total inches measuring chest, waist, hips, bicep and thigh.

I literally can only imagine where this will take me if I continue at this rate. And the best part is I am finally beginning to believe that this can happen. That I can discover my body’s natural weight and be free of obesity and all that comes with it, once, and for the rest of time.  I can heal my body and my life.

This morning’s 2 hour suffer-fest and 2 mile run was fueled by:

Oats, flaxseed, cinnamon and berries,

Energy bites made with oats, maple syrup, almond butter, flaxseed and raisins,

And Rice cakes made with sushi rice, fresh squeezed lemon, fresh squeezed orange and fresh raspberries.

Re-fueling after my workout today included steamed brussels sprouts and hash browns baked with spinach in the oven. And hot sauce.

An hour or so later, I was still hungry, and my body was asking for fruit. It does this. I can tell when my body needs fruit. And it soaks it right up! I made a smoothie with 2 small frozen bananas, a big handful frozen wild blueberries and 2 big handfuls spinach. So refreshing.

For dinner tonight I made Curry Quinoa with Vegetables. It was filling and satisfying.

This morning for breakfast I had oats and berries. Just a couple of ingredients…oats, water, cinnamon and frozen wild blueberries.

The rest of today’s meal plan is bought to you by Country Clubs, Coffee Shops, Pizzerias and Sushi Bars. I attended a retirement party at the Country Club over the noon hour and struck gold with a fresh fruit salad. I ordered the vegetable plate for my entre, which was steamed seasonal vegetables and rice pilaf. The vegetables were cooked in a small amount of oil. There are worst things. Consistent progress over perfection. I felt so good after lunch. Content, not stuffed. Major accomplishment.

We made a coffee shop run in the afternoon and I had a 20oz Earl Grey tea with steamed soy. After researching the ingredients that are in most plant milks, I have decided to abstain the best I can from plant milk moving forward. After all, the real reason I want plant milk is because I still crave mother’s milk. It’s hard, but I’m weening myself off the milk.

Speaking of weening off milk, I met some girlfriends for happy hour at our favorite Pizzeria. I am obsessed with their Neapolitan style pizza, the craft beer and their stemless wine glasses. Another major accomplishment for the day was ordering their salad sans parmigiana reggiano and house vinaigrette, and adding green olives instead. This is the essence of whole food plant based…eating the whole olive rather than the pressed olive oil Perfecto!

I have been sober 19 days. Wow. I enjoy wine and beer immensely but am giving my body a good break from it. It causes me to over eat, it’s added calories, and it gives me a head ache most morning afters. The break has been nice. I love ordering sparkling water with lime. It’s fizzy, it’s hydrating, and I can drink as many as I want with no hangover. Hallelujah!!

For dinner I ordered in sushi…Edamame without salt, Vegetable Roll and Avocado Roll. Another change I’ve made in the way I eat is to skip the soy sauce. I put a little dab of wasabi on each bite and enjoy my rolls without the added salt.

Vegetables for breakfast!

I was all over the place today for work and was out of town when lunchtime hit. I ran through a BBQ joint that I knew had baked potatoes. I ordered one potato, plain, and a side of corn.

This afternoon I had the best snack ever. We found some pears in the frig at work that were a gift from one of our vendors. They were so bright and crisp. I also made a hot cup of Hibiscus tea. Sooooo good.

I had a few of my Energy Bites on the bike tonight for fuel. They’re so easy to make and they freeze really well making them perfect for grabbing before a workout.

Energy Bites

1 cup oats

1/2 cup nut butter (I used almond butter)

1/2 cup ground flax seeds

1/2 cup raisins

1/3 cup pure maple syrup

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp cinnamon

Other optional ingredients: chia seeds, cacao nibs, unsweetened coconut flakes. Stir all ingredients together until mixed. Roll into 1″ diameter balls. Keep refrigerated for up to a week, or store in the freezer.

On the way home I picked up another chopped salad from Doc Greens…gosh, that’s 3 times this week…and I added some hummus that I quickly whipped up. I should get extra points for skipping the croutons, dressing and pita bread, don’t you think?

Breakfast this morning was my usual steamed vegetables and a potato. I go in phases with the kind of vegetables I eat as well as the kind of potato. This week I’m loving mixed vegetables and sweet potatoes.

I am still real low on groceries in the house, but I am getting by. I’ve been saving a lot of money by scraping by. I cooked up some southern style black eyed peas for lunch and had them with corn and hot sauce. I am really into adding hot sauce right now for some extra flavor. I figured this meal cost me less than $2. That’s fantastic! It was hearty and satisfying, it really filled me up. I wasn’t hungry until dinner time.

For dinner I cooked a Russet potato in the oven and had a Potato Bar. That’s what we call it in my family. Bake some potatoes and set an array of toppings out on the counter. Yum!! I made my potato half black eyed peas, half chili and corn. Filling and satisfying.

As I was doing the dishes after dinner, I got a craving for something sweet. I have learned that craving is a conditioned response from having dessert after dinner for so many meals in my life. It comes up from time to time, and I know it came up tonight since I gave into the craving earlier this week with the sweet energy bites in the evening. I helped myself out by taking the raisins out of the house last night. Now I don’t have all the ingredients to make a sweet treat so it isn’t tempting me. I told myself the kitchen is closed and I retreated to the couch to type up this post.

How am I feeling about everything? Happy and free. Those are the two best words to describe it thus far. I am determined. I believe. And I am so looking forward to what this year is going to bring. Consistent action (even small steps) lead to big change over time!
